Genius - the Modern View

CommentsSometimes an op ed piece comes along that moves me to comment. This is one such article: http://tinyurl.com/cgbrba by David Brooks in the April 30th New York Times. And this is my comment...

Practice and painstakingly fine tuning skills are very instrumental in producing excellence. And the doing comes from who the person is being, not the other way around of constructing ourselves from the outside in. Like the saying goes, "You can take a horse to the water, but you can't force the horse to drink."

How we evolve as a human being in the world speaks of our values and beliefs. Science has proven that “the brain is phenomenally plastic.” But what inspires one to hone their skills beyond average limits? The desire to challenge oneself comes from the inside – from being curious wondering what it would be like to reach a desired outcome – from the enjoyment of the craft.

Focus is extremely relevant in doing anything well. It means being present to what you are doing and so much more.
